Epic 1, the industrial and modern era (~1650 AD to the end)
I completed the following wonders: Angkor Wat, Statue of Liberty (I hope the free specialist can pull me out of my current tech hole).
I made the required switch to emancipation in 1724 AD.
t is pretty disappointing when you are you are trying for a cultural win, and another AI is the most cultured in the world.
Gandhi continues to be a royal pain.
This is the first time during the whole game I have seen any military action, and that is only a few stray units pillaging Gandhi.
Who would have believed that I could hit +11 with Montezuma?
Around 1800 AD I concede the attempt at cultural victory.
In the end I feel that only having 2 religions together with my horrid economic start doomed the attempt.
I lost to many early wonders due to being behind in tech.
The economic failure is what caused me to lose the final attempt at Islam.
The religious super buildings with the 50% boast to culture are too critical to a cultural win.
I am now going to space or diplomatic.
The diplomatic option is thrown out the window when I watch American tanks eat my friends the Aztecs alive.
At this time I am still seriously behind America.
I have at least caught up with India.
I start to get some breaks at this point.

To give you an idea how bad the science situation is, I got a notice that America has completed the Apollo Program while I still have 3 turns to research rocketry.
Building the UN helps, as I keep the world nuclear free.
If it wasn't for the American slaughter of the Aztecs, I have no question I would have won diplomatically.
All I needed to do was improve my relations with the Aztecs a little bit more.
If I were in position to help them out militarily, that would have been enough.
Research is my problem in the space race, not production.
I have multiple high shield cities.
Due to this I did complete the space elevator to hope it might be the difference on completing the final parts.
I am still behind America in completed parts at this time, and Gandhi is starting to build them.
IMHO the only reason I squeaked a victory is was the fact that I saved the cheapest space parts for last.
This together with the space elevator was probably the only reason I won.
I completed the Three Gorges Dam in a city that flipped to me.
It took me that long to get a river based city.
I learned a new stunt to spread religion.
I wanted to get Greece hinduized, but he was in theology.
When he left theology, he used all the missionaries I donated him and coverted.
Can I cut it any closer?
What is sad is when I look at the final screen is that I could have won with cultural as originally planned.
How often do you see a former barbarian city the most cultured in the world?

The below is the official victory screen.
You can see where I flipped Ning-hsia and how large those southern barbarians cities got.

Even at the end the French weren't that strong of a civ:

If this isn't the ultimate definition of fishing village, I don't know what is.

The final screen shot.
Check out the percent Mongolian there *capitol* is!
That is just plain crazy.
