Epic 13, the modern era



I celebrate entering the modern era by building Broadway the same year. I get a great spy that bombs Portugal. I get an artist shortly afterwards, so I form Civilized Jewelers just play around with corporations. My next war starts with the Byzantine in 1879 AD. Their cities are really cramping my culture in former Netherlands.

The beginning of wonder mania sees the Eiffel Tower completed in 1880 AD.


I am learning some of the random events give really offbeat answers. The choices for the senate scandal are tough to call, but I finally decide on the extra happiness.
I next capture Trebizond in the north in 1883 AD.
Wonder mania continues during the war as Rock and Roll is completed in 1884 AD. Cristo Redentor is completed in 1886 AD. This wonder is totally broken. The insane scenario of revolt to slavery, whip a few expensive buildings to kill off miserable citizens, and revolt back to emancipation almost feels like game abuse.
After a painful delay due to my cannon stack needing major healing from massive cavalry flanking, I finally capture Constantinople in 1890 AD.
I get a GE in 1891, and build creative constructions to play with corporations more. At this point the game is won, and I feel learning about corporations is a more important for me then shaving a couple of turns off the end date. At first glance it appears corporations are too expensive for their benefits. I suspect they will be limited to a few key cities to avoid a total economic collapse supporting them. After playing around a little it is clear you want them in the Wall Street city to triple the $5 per city they earn as a bonus. It looks like the jewelry corp is only worth it for a culture victory. I add the UN to the list of wonders in 1893 AD.


I add Hollywood to the wonder parade in 1898 AD.





With this capture I turn Justinian into my vassal. His last two cities are too much of a pain to deal with.

I thought I might sneak in back door domination, but I look about twenty votes short. I now need to wait for the last cities to come out of resistance, as the extra tiles may be enough. If not, then Sury has a surprise coming up. It was closer then expected, but I am still 18 votes short. After border expansion, I am 1/2 % short of the needed land for domination, so I declare war on Sury.
Before I can capture a single city, I get the message of a domination victory in 1915 AD.

As you can see from the score graph I broke out really early, and never looked back. I think this game was effectively over when I wiped Sitting Bull of the map. With no other nearby civs, I could expand into a monster.


Looking over the stats is funny, as I only built 6 natural cities.
My final score is 51,686. I officially record my first completed BTS game.

Despite the monster empire, research pace wasn't a problem.



My production was already #1 early, and the lead got more absurd as the game went on.
